Richard Strauss' monumental tone poem Don Quixote - based on the magnum opus of Miguel de Cervantes and scored for solo violoncello, viola, and huge orchestra - culminates the DuPage Symphony's year-long celebration of great music inspired by great literature. Soloist Sebastian Bäverstam, praised by The Strad for his "powerfully expressive style" and "consummate instrumental mastery," joins the DSO as soloist in this extraordinary work. Robert Schumann's Manfred Overture and Tchaikovsky's "Romeo and Juliet" Fantasy-Overture make up the first half of the program, completing the inspirational thread for the DSO's season of "Great Expectations." Barbara Schubert and the DuPage Symphony Orchestra perform at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville, IL. 11 May 2013. |
